What DokuTrak adds, and what it costs you
The file is checked at upload, not two weeks later
When a client uploads, DokuTrak can run a first-pass check on the file itself: is it the document type you asked for, is it legible, does the period match, has it expired, are the required fields present. It writes a flag and a one-line reason, then stops: you accept the file or mark it for re-upload. Content Snare collects the file and lets you reject it with a change request; its own documentation describes no check on what was uploaded.
You switch the check on, and it has a monthly allowance
The AI check is off until an admin turns it on for the workspace, and each plan includes a set number of checks per month: 500 on Solo, 5,000 on Team, 25,000 on Agency. Past the allowance, uploads keep working normally and the file simply arrives without a verdict. Nothing is ever blocked because of it.
No plan limit on requests or clients
Content Snare meters active requests: 20 on Basic, 50 on Plus, 100 on Pro. Firms with seasonal peaks hit that ceiling. DokuTrak plans do not cap the number of requests or clients. The real ceiling is storage, and that is where Content Snare is more generous — see the table.
Content Snare is cheaper, broader and older
Their entry plan is half our price and includes two users. They ship a large template library, SMS reminders, ISO 27001 certification and years of customers. We ship none of those. If the AI check is not worth that gap to you, Content Snare is the better buy, and this page is not trying to talk you out of it.

Verdict — when each tool wins
Content Snare costs less for the one-user and five-user cases above, and it is the broader product: a large template library, SMS reminders, more storage, any file type, ISO 27001 certification, and a long customer history behind it. DokuTrak is worth evaluating for one reason: the file is examined at upload rather than when you open it. If your intake is documents with consequences — a statement for the wrong period, an expired certificate, a scan you cannot read — a flag at the moment of upload is worth more than the price difference, because the second round-trip is what costs you the deadline. If your intake is content and assets where anything legible will do, it is not.
The check only flags. You accept the file or mark it for re-upload, and nothing moves without you. Test it on files that actually came in badly last season and read the verdicts yourself before you move any workflow.

Is DokuTrak cheaper than Content Snare?
No. Content Snare Basic is $42/month and includes two users, against $79/month for one user on DokuTrak Solo. For five users, Content Snare Plus is $85/month against $199/month on DokuTrak Team. Billed annually the gap widens in their favour. Plans are matched here by the number of people who can review files, not by identical features, and neither vendor sells the same bundle. Then why would I pay more for DokuTrak?
For one capability: an optional first-pass check on each uploaded file, which flags a wrong document type, an unreadable scan, a period that does not match what you asked for, an expired document, or missing required fields — with a one-line reason, before you open it. Content Snare lets you reject a file and request a replacement, which is the same repair done later by a human. If that earlier signal does not change your workflow, the price difference is not worth it.
What does Content Snare have that DokuTrak does not?
A pre-built template library, requests that recur on a schedule (through their documented Zapier and Airtable setup), SMS reminders included on every plan, 20 to 200 GB of storage against our 5 GB per workspace, acceptance of any file type, ISO 27001 certification, and years of customers. DokuTrak ships no ready-made templates: you build your own or duplicate one you already made.
Do my clients need an account with either tool?
No, with both. Content Snare states clients do not need to sign up, create a password or install anything, and DokuTrak works the same way: one link per request, the client uploads against a checklist, no account. This is parity between the two products, not a difference.
What can my clients actually upload to DokuTrak?
PDF, JPG, PNG, HEIC, HEIF and DOCX, up to 25 MB per file. Spreadsheets, CSV files and archives are not accepted today — if your clients send bank exports as XLSX, that is a real limitation and Content Snare accepts them. Links expire with the request deadline, capped at 30 days, and a client who comes back after that needs a fresh link from you.
Can I migrate my Content Snare templates to DokuTrak?
There is no import. You copy the document list from each Content Snare template into a new DokuTrak template, and because we ship no starter library you build every one of them yourself. Most firms recreate their most-used templates first, run both tools in parallel for a season, and only then decide.
How does DokuTrak compare on security?
Content Snare is ISO 27001 certified, hosted on AWS with data stored in the United States. DokuTrak holds no ISO 27001 or SOC 2 certification today. If your clients or your regulator require a certified vendor, that is a decisive point in favour of Content Snare. Our current controls and their limits are documented at /security.
