> Ask the applicant for a clear copy of the front and back of the driver’s license for every driver in the household, including a teenager with a permit and anyone who drives the cars regularly. You need the license number, issuing state and date of birth for each driver to run the quote and the driving record before you bind the auto policy.

## Why insurance agents need a driver’s license

Carriers rate an auto policy on each driver, not only on the named insured. The license number and state let you or the carrier pull the motor vehicle report, and the date of birth places the driver in the right age band. A household driver left off the application can cause a premium change or a claim dispute later, so the list of drivers matters as much as the licenses.

## What exactly to ask for

Front and back of each current license, in color, for everyone in the household of driving age and any regular driver who lives elsewhere. Ask the applicant to say who drives which vehicle, and to mention a suspended license or a learner’s permit rather than leave that person out.

## What to check when it arrives

- The name and date of birth match what the applicant gave you for the quote.
- The license is current and issued by the state where the cars are garaged, or the applicant has explained a recent move.
- There is one license for every household member of driving age on the applicant’s list.

## Email to send your client

Subject: Driver’s licenses for your auto quote

```text
Hi [Client name],
Thank you for asking me to quote your auto insurance. To price it correctly I need a copy of the driver’s license, front and back, for every driver in your household, including a teenager with a learner’s permit.
A photo taken flat on a table in good light is fine, as long as the license number and date of birth are easy to read.
Could you send them by [date]? If someone in your home does not drive, just tell me and I will note it on the quote.
Thank you,
[Your name]
```

## Ask once. DokuTrak does the chasing.

- Your client uploads from one link, with no account and no password.
- Reminders go out on a schedule, by default 2, 5, 10 and 14 days after the request, until the file arrives.
- With AI review switched on in your workspace (it is off by default), each upload gets a first pass that flags a file that is not a driver’s license, an unreadable or blurry scan or an expired document. It says so when it is not sure.
- You accept every file or mark it for re-upload, and your client gets the note by email. The AI never accepts a file.
